Jerky is essentially dried meat. It can be dried in a smoker, oven, dehydrator or air dried, resulting in meat that is lighter and nutrient dense. As it can also be stored without the need for preservatives or refrigeration, jerky remains an ideal food or nutritious snack for backpackers, soldiers or anyone on the go.

Bak kwa, a Chinese salty sweet dried meat is similar to jerky in texture. However, the preparation methods, ingredients and nutrition benefits differ greatly.

The answer is it depends on how jerky is made.

High fructose corn syrup. Purified nitrites. Sugar. MSG-hiding maltodextrin hydrolyzed corn protein, yeast extract, "natural" flavorings. The typical beef jerky ingredients list reads like a science experiment from a chemistry lab. Many of the Western beef jerky are heavily processed and "enhanced" to increase their shelf life and to jack up the intensity of its flavor.

These additives and preservatives greatly negate the many benefits of jerky as a healthy go-to snack. Made of meat, jerky itself has a high protein content. It does not raise the level of insulin - a hormone in our body which if increased, causes fat storage. This makes it an ideal snack for weight watchers or those trying to keep lean.

Jerky also contains minerals, and consuming it can boost your phosphorus intake which supports the effectiveness of your kidneys. It is an excellent source of Vitamin B-12, which helps keep your nerves and red blood cells healthy. In fact, a deficiency in this crucial vitamin is usually reported with symptoms of fatigue. 

Mostly, jerky snacks works great to satisfy hunger pangs, which is why it makes such a great snack as it prevents you from over-eating.

All baked goods are delivered via courier regardless of the amount ordered. Self pick up is not an available option for now.

For a nominal fee of $10, your baked goods will be delivered to your location at your selected date and time.

Your Goodness can be delivered from Wednesday to Saturday

From Wednesday to Friday, there are two available slots: 10am - 1pm (morning) or 3pm - 6pm (afternoon)

On Saturday, only 1 delivery slot in the morning is available between 10am - 1pm.

Our baked range by Oh My Goodness! use only natural ingredients which means there are no stabilisers or preservatives in your goodness.

So given Singapore's climate, we do not recommend leaving your goodness out at room temperature for more than 2 days. Instead, Oh My Goodness! always recommends that you portion your goodness and freeze what you don't need until you're ready for more. The beauty of gluten-free baking is that your goodness will be exactly as it was when you received it, once you take it out of the freezer and let it come back to room temperature.

Of course, you can also store your goodness in the refrigerator for up to 4 days although do bear in mind that refrigeration tends to dry out baked goods in general.
